La Salle Raises $10,000 on Dress-down Day for Lasallian ministries in Puerto Rico
On Friday, 8 September, La Salle Academy had a special Dress-down Day to collect funds that could be used for Hurricane Relief. Following Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, the school administration decided that it would donate the proceeds ($10,000.00) to a Lasallian ministry most in need at this time.
The Superior General of the Brothers (Brother Robert Schieler, FSC) put us in touch with the leadership of the District of Antilles-South Mexico which has jurisdiction over Lasallian ministries in Puerto Rico. We have heard from them that Colegio La Salle, Bayamon PR had substantial damage to property and buildings. In addition they have been closed since the hurricane and are not scheduled to re-open until the middle of October. Some pictures of the damage are attached.
Brother Nestor, a member of that District, has written us in advance of our donation:
“In the name of Antillas-Mexico Sur, especially the Lasallian community in Puerto Rico, I want to say to you
many thanks for your generous donation from your Lasallian community (students, teachers, principals…). This
is an example that there are no borders (Lasallians without Limits) to do good and live the Lasallian spirit.”
We join Brother Nestor in expressing our gratitude to all who contributed so generously to those hurting from these natural disasters.
