Model UN, sponsored by Harvard University’s team, took place last weekend at the Sheraton in downtown Boston. La Salle students took part in six sessions that were approximately four hours each over four days. When discussing the conference with junior Blake Rogers, he said sixteen juniors and seniors completed background research on their topics, wrote speeches, and had after school meetings. This year, La Salle represented two countries, Uganda and Vietnam. Over the course of the weekend, several committees combined ideas into resolutions that required a two-thirds majority in order to pass. These committees, dealing with a variety of global issues, ranged in size from forty people to over 400 people. Although, Model UN is more than a series of meetings. Throughout the conference, students had the opportunity to form new friendships, tour Harvard, and tour different areas of Boston. With many of their members graduating in June, underclassmen should definitely consider attending next year’s Model UN.
