Mardi Gras at La Salle Academy

On the first Tuesday of March, people around the world celebrate Mardi Gras. This day signifies the close of the pre-Lenten season and is marked by parades, picnics, music, and floats. Mardi Gras, French for “Fat Tuesday,” occurs the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks a season of fasting for Christians. 

Music is a vital part of the Mardi Gras scene. For the past 10 years, La Salle has celebrated Mardi Gras through live jazz music in the cafeteria. During all lunches, the jazz ensemble performs various pieces to bring Mardi Gras to life in the school. Members of the ensemble play the saxophone, trombone, trumpet, guitar, piano, bass, and drums. Throughout the day, students can listen to the music and enjoy the rich history of jazz. Students here at La Salle are truly full of exceptional talent.
