Athletics: What is Senior Night?

As the fall sports season comes to a close, many teams are holding senior nights to honor the work of student athletes in the class of 2023. For underclassmen you might wonder “what is a senior night?”

Well, a senior night is typically when the team choses a game where they show respect and honor to the graduating class. Before the senior night game, many of the underclassmen make posters and/or presents for the seniors as a sign of thankfulness for playing on their team. At the beginning of the game, an announcer usually announces the names of the seniors one by one. After the seniors are introduced, the team and the seniors play the game as any normal game. Senior night activities usually pick up after the game. There is a small after party where family and the team is present. Many of the juniors will give heartfelt speeches to the seniors and wish them luck at their upcoming journey as a college student in the future.

Now that you know more about senior nights, make sure to attend some senior night games to wish the graduating class good luck, and give them a good LSA farewell. GOOD LUCK AND BEST WISHES TO THE CLASS OF 2023!
